In the 21st century, humanity is theoretically more connected than ever before: with a simple tap or a scroll of a finger, people can instantaneously expand their conversational reach across the globe. However, despite the rise of numerous social media platforms that claim to bring people together, discourse breakdown remains a pressing issue. Conversations on political or contentious topics on these platforms quickly devolve into ad hominem attacks—or worse, the discussions do not occur at all, culminating in a phenomenon I term “dialogue extinction” …
